How to Save Water (and Help the Earth!)

Squeaks and Mister Brown have a leaky faucet! Luckily this is a great chance to learn about how they can save water. SOURCES: Second Grade Next Generation Science Standards Disciplinary Core Idea: ESS2.C: The Roles of Water in Earth’s Surface Processes - Water is found in the ocean, rivers, lakes, and ponds. Water exists as solid ice and in liquid form (2-ESS2-3). Performance Expectation: 2-ESS2-3 Obtain information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid.

    Water is important and can be found in many places like oceans and rivers. We can help the Earth by saving water, like fixing leaky faucets.

    - After watching the video, you can encourage your 4-year-old to turn off the faucet tightly to prevent leaks. - Discuss with your child the importance of saving water and how it helps the Earth, for example, you can explain how water scarcity affects plants and animals. - You can engage your child in a fun activity of counting the drops of water from a leaky faucet, and then compare it to the amount of water used during a regular hand washing routine. - You can also encourage your child to come up with creative ways to save water at home, such as using a bucket to collect rainwater for the plants.

    GAME NAME: Water Heroes INSTRUCTIONS: Explain to your child how important it is to save water by turning the leaky faucet off. Challenge them to find other ways to save water, such as taking shorter showers or turning off the water while brushing teeth. Keep score and celebrate when you both become Water Heroes!
